Lecture: War of 1812 in Maryland

  • Tuesday 26
7-9 PM. Examine causes of this misunderstood war, Maryland’s preparedness and politics, and the propaganda war on both sides of the Atlantic. The country tried to compensate for the Royal Navy’s superiority at sea by outfitting ‘Privateers’. British control of the Chesapeake Bay led to engagements at Bladensburg, Baltimore, Caulk’s Field, and Washington DC. Discuss the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ and the local/national legacies of the War. Instructor: Jeff Goodson
