Tweet Nothings: Me, the NYC Marathon & Fame

I’m running the New York Marathon on Sunday with my pal Katie Barkdoll. And Twitter is the drug fueling my marathon mania.

People, I’m supposed to be ON TASK. I’m supposed to be GROCERY SHOPPING and FEEDING MY FAMILY and DOING LAUNDRY taking care of my CLIENTS… but instead, I am stalking the NYC Marathon on Twitter.

Surprised that the marathon is on Twitter? Really, folks? I already told you about Lord Voldemort tweeting. Why would a marathon surprise you?

And it is not only the marathon that is the problem here. In fact, the marathon’s tweets aren’t the biggest issue. The biggest issue is that the marathon has its own hashtag. (#ingnycm) The fact that I can follow that hashtag and see conversations around the world … IS A HUGE TIME SUCK. I have no one to blame but myself when I find myself working until midnight.

Darn Twitter.

That being said, I have discovered some great resources because of the hashtag.  Like a blog being written by Lauren Johnston for the NYDailyNews Online. She is a first time marathoner who has had a ton of fun content to read.

My latest discovery via Johnston? The fact that supermodel Veronica Webb is running NYC for the second time. Grrr…. Really? How come she can look that good while running? That is what I want to know! I mean, I’m okay with running next to Al Roker or Jared from Subway, but um, not running near this lady. I’ll bet she doesn’t even sweat.

But I digress….

I did agree with a couple of things that she had to say, though. For instance: “If you ever want to understand the drug that is fame, run a marathon.”

LOVE IT!

Because I get that statement. I understand it. Sometimes the only thing standing between you, exhaustion and that finish line is a crowd of screaming spectators cheering for you. And yes, I did feel a little red carpet electricity the last two times I have crossed the finish line.  Paparazzi and all.

The supermodel goes on to say, “A marathon is up there like seeing Paris for the first time or coming to New York for the first time or having a baby. It is like, a big life-changing experience. I love it. I can’t recommend it more highly.”

We might not shop at the same stores or live an even remotely similar lifestyle but, next Sunday, Veronica and I are crossing the same finish line.

No worries, I’ll sign autographs when I return.
